Belas Shopping was the first retail shopping center in Angola.
This project was inspired by a deep understanding of the inefficiencies related to Angolans’ acquisition of consumer and luxury goods, which often required travel to neighboring countries, as well as prescient market insights regarding the growth of Angola’s bourgeoning middle class. For the first time in the country’s history, Angolans were able to experience the convenience of modern shopping and Angolan businesses were able to service the growing domestic market for their products.
Covering an area of almost 120,000 square meters, Belas opened on March 29, 2007. Today, the mall has eight cinemas, a food court, entertainment area and more than one hundred stores. Approximately 1,000 people were employed in the construction of the shopping center, which today employs 950 people directly and creates around 1,500 indirect jobs.
