During the civil war in Angola, the country relied on airline crew members to bring medicine in their luggage for the importation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. The VMD Group founded Neofarma in 2002 as the first wholesale distributor of medicine in the country.The company soon grew to serve the entire Angolan market’s pharmaceutical and distribution needs, with a national network of over 80 small pharmacies. As a result of this extensive network and superior storage capabilities, Neofarma was chosen as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s distribution partner in Angola.

Belas Shopping was the first retail shopping center in Angola.This project was inspired by a deep understanding of the inefficiencies related to Angolans’ acquisition of consumer and luxury goods, which often required travel to neighboring countries, as well as prescient market insights regarding the growth of Angola’s bourgeoning middle class. For the first time in the country’s history, Angolans were able to experience the convenience of modern shopping and Angolan businesses were able to service the growing domestic market for their products.Covering an area of almost 120,000 square meters, Belas opened on March 29, 2007. Today, the mall has eight cinemas, a food court, entertainment area and more than one hundred stores. Approximately 1,000 people were employed in the construction of the shopping center, which today employs 950 people directly and creates around 1,500 indirect jobs.

Belas Shopping Center

As the Angolan economy diversifies beyond oil and gas, Chella Mining Holdings has invested in the following mining projects:•Buco-Zau gold mine, Cabinda province•Lufo gold mine, Cabinda province•Mungo diamond mine, Huambo province•The Buco-Zau and Lufo mining projects, both based in the northern province of Cabinda, were awarded two concessions to prospect and mine in the Mayombe Forest Transfrontier Protected Area which they now operate. To assure investors and stakeholders that all projects comply with environmental, social and ethical standards, both the Buco-Zau and Lufo mines were able to obtain licenses only after a thorough environmental review and commitments to reforestation, including the construction of a tree nursery of over 5,000 tree seedlings.

Os projeto mineiro de Buco-Zau, situado na província de Cabinda, obtive as licenças de prospeção e exploração de ouro dentro da Área Protegida Transfronteiriça da Floresta de Mayombe em 2019. Em Dezembro 2021, Buco-Zau tornou-se o primeiro exportador de ouro produzido em Angola desde a década de 1970, desempenhando um papel fundamental no redesenvolvimento desta indústria no país.
